We are pleased to announce our special guest and featured instructor for this year's Scrapbook Your Heart Alberta-wide retreat this May...

Diana Kennedy

Hi! I am Diana Kennedy from Edmonton, Alberta. I have always been artistic in some way throughout my life. I have tried my hand at drawing, painting, sewing, crocheting, clay sculpture, jewellery making and all kinds of dancing ranging from ballroom to belly dance. More recently, I am teaching myself how to create art journals and mixed media art. My day job has me using my Master of Science Degree in Clothing and Textiles working as a manager of Arts in Healthcare Programs within an acute care hospital.

I was introduced to scrapbooking in 2007 when I went on a retreat with a friend. I was scrapbooking my wedding and was instantly hooked! I am presently on the design team for "Scrapbooking From the Inside Out" and have been published in Canadian Scrapbooker, Scrapstreet.com and featured on Donna Downey's and Cathy Zielske's blogs. My other interests include clean eating, baking/cooking, organic gardening, hiking, running, biking, being a Zumba® instructor and of course going shopping for scrapbook supplies.

I am inspired daily by all the many talented people who tell their life stories through the art of scrapbooking and am anxious to help you do the same at the Scrapbook Your Heart retreat.

Diana is not only super sweet, but she is just over the top talented and is PERFECTLY tuned into what this retreat is all about!!! As we say over and over, Scrapbook Your Heart is a retreat designed to help you explore and craft about deeper matters of the heart... it is about women coming together to help one another make it through this life on earth that is sometimes amazing, but many times nasty!! And Diana is all about crafting the good, the bad and the downright ugly parts of what we all encounter in this life...

And a personal favourite that was picked for publication in Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine at the Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival in Edmonton last fall... we simply couldn't resist her butterflies!!!!!!!!!!!

So as you can see, not only is Diana super talented, but she is beautifully vulnerable, inspiring and eager to share herself with us at Scrapbook Your Heart.

Chapel at Camp Caroline...

Check out this beautiful photo of the little chapel out at Camp Caroline!! It was a stormy summer evening when the sun broke through the clouds and shone on the chapel and a rainbow appeared!!! It was there for a fleeting moment and thank goodness I had my camera around my neck :)

I ended up using this photo as the title page in my "Scrapbook Your Faith" article that is published in the Winter 2010/11 Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine issue (on newstands now!!!) so be sure to check it out!! You can also see one of the layouts from the article HERE

Also... the group shot from our 2010 retreat will be in the Spring 2011 issue so watch for that as well!!

Scrapbook Your Heart Retreat 2011!!!

Book the weekend NOW for our next annual Scrapbook Your Heart Alberta wide weekend retreat taking place May 13-15, 2011 at Camp Caroline in Caroline, Alberta!!! We are still working out some of the session topics and themes, but know that this year is going to be AMAZING!!!!

Just remember that this is NOT a crop weekend, but rather a ladies getaway retreat with sessions, projects (supplies provided), optional classes and the opportunity to learn, grow, create, play, laugh, cry, hot tub, hike, take pictures, make friends and dig a little deeper into matters of the heart.

Space is limited and registration will open beginning of February... first for "repeat attenders" and then for "newcomers" until full.

Oh what an amazing weekend!!!!! This year's

Scrapbook Your Heart

Alberta-wide retreat was simply the BEST ONE YET!!!!! Just under 80 ladies from all across Alberta joined together for this weekend at Camp Caroline in central Alberta! The camp has acres of natural forest, streams and walking paths... perfect surroundings for inspirational crafting... indoors AND outdoors!!

Our guest instructor Michelle Zemlak guided us through some deliciously layered layouts!! Her store The Hope Chest is a MUST SEE so if you're ever in the Delburne area... it is soooooo worth taking the time out for a visit!!! And we had some fun with a photo class and an all-day project designed by Christy Riopel that had the ladies painting, smooshing, glittering, beading and PLAYING to create their own unique "Joy Journals!!"

The purpose of this weekend is far deeper than simply scrapbooking! Yes, it is a girlfriends' get-away... and YES, we pamper and treat with things like a midnight Bernard Callebaut chocolate fondue!! But it is also so much more!!! We dig deeper into the areas of life that many times get neglected, but desperately need our attention... our desire is to uplift and support one another through those times in life when it's most needed.... and on top of it all, to pamper, encourage and treat and love on each special woman that attends...

Our amazing team (Kandi Permann, Christine Collier, Christy Riopel, Allison Orthner and guest instructor Michelle Zemlak) spared nothing in making this retreat all we had hoped for!

Good Day!

In about one month we will all be gathering for our amazing weekend retreat!!! WE ARE EXCITED!!!

In today's update, we want to introduce you a bit better to Michelle Zemlak, our guest instructor!!

Michelle, originally from Red Deer, now residing in the cozy small town of

Delburne AB. with her best friend and hubby John aka “the nicest man in

Canada”, and her 4 fantabulous children and many furry friends who are all

more often than not the inspiration behind her designs.

Michelle is the owner & designer of a quaint scrapbook boutique

The Hope Chest Scrapbook & Gift Co. where she is fortunate enough to be

able to express her artistic abilities on a daily basis. Michelle has a passion

for all things shabby and vintage! From her old character home, vintage style décor, to her scrapbook designs, its shabby & vintage all the way!

Michelle is grateful to have found her creative outlet in scrapbooking which

has enabled her to share her passion of “Living life creatively”

with her family and others!

We are very excited to have Michelle and her quaint store "The Hope Chest" join us this year!!

A few other assorted things to note:

a few of you have asked about the bedding at Camp Caroline... you bring your own!! The cabins all have bunk beds with mattresses, but you bring along your own pillow and bedding/sleeping bag!

as part of a fun aspect for this year's retreat, we would like each of you bring a LITTLE gift under $5 value to do a gift exchange with another attendee! We will give you more details at the retreat, but wanted to give you the opportunity to do this ahead of time (or if you run out of time, you can buy something at the retreat! It can be scrapbooking related or not, but please keep it small and under $5 value!

the camp has allowed us pick our menu for this year!! So know that even THAT is going to be specially designed for you!!

The GBC Scrappers team is anxiously planning all sorts of amazing goodies for the upcoming Scrapbook Your Heart retreat on May 14-16, 2010!! Here are a few important things to note!

If you have not yet submitted payment, you must get it in the mail PRIOR to April 15!! If you mail it past April 15, please add in an additional $20. After April 15, cabins may be reassigned (only 2 cabins left in Aspen lodge!)

We have some super awesome projects based on our "Time for Everything" theme!! We will give you specifics of what to bring along including some photos. Meanwhile, know that we are excited to work with the following major sponsors for these projects:

Great news!! We have secured our special guest instructors that will be coming to Alberta's Scrapbook Your Heart retreat May 22-24, 2009!!

Leica Forrest - Leica is a creative powerhouse coming as a special guest instructor from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan!! She was particularly interested in this retreat as she has personally suffered great loss over the past year and has found healing and inspiration through scrapbooking!! In Leica's "spare time", she takes care of the loves of her life... hubby, two boys and finally a baby girl that she can scrapbook with real "girly" stuff!! Jill Hildebrand - Jill has a distinct style of scrapbooking and it totally matches her uncanny ability to ensure everyone has a good time!! Christine Collier - Christine is affectionately known as Calgary's Craft Diva and comes as no surprise that she is going to teach the "Princess" layout at the retreat! Christine lives in Calgary with her hubby and two kids who enjoy their mom's assorted crafts gracing their home from top to bottom!!!

Christy Riopel - Christy is co-owner of one of Canada's Top kit club called www.MondayNightClass.ca and is proud to be our MC for the weekend as well as instructor for our "Warrior" layout at the retreat! She is also hoping to guide attendees through a simple, but effective way to journal heart matters on your layouts and be strong and proud about some of the not-so-pretty things we have endured! WOW!!! I'm thinking that women are needing some pampering and know where to find it as we are almost sold out for our Scrapbook Your Heart 2009 retreat!!!

We have about 90 already registered and will only be accepting 100 scrapbookers so be sure to sign up soon if you are still hoping to attend!! And we haven't even really done any marketing yet... this is all from word of mouth from last year!!! Hmmmmm... what does that tell you??

And watch for some exciting news of who is going to be joining our already amazing team as special guest instructors!!! Alberta scrappers are going to want to take advantage of this opportunity as these are not local girls, but some of Canada's top ladies!!! Care to guess????

You will be able to access the online registration from this blog as well as the Scrapbook Your Heart website. Space is limited and due to the popularity of last year's retreat, we do expect it to sell out quickly so be sure you and your friends register early so as to not be disappointed!
